Our Commitment
to CSR and ESG
Practices
At Komari, we are deeply committed to creating a positive impact on our communities, the environment, and the world. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on key areas such as promoting responsible drinking, generating job opportunities, and protecting the environment. Through our CSR strategy, we strive to drive meaningful change in Ethiopia and beyond.
One of our core initiatives is promoting alcohol literacy to encourage responsible drinking habits. We also address unemployment by generating job opportunities and empowering local communities. In our environmental efforts, we are dedicated to protecting natural resources and supporting local projects that promote sustainability.
We actively participate in a range of community initiatives, from enhancing hygiene and sanitation standards through local partnerships, to contributing to reforestation and environmental conservation. Additionally, we invest in projects that uplift local communities, particularly focusing on empowering youth and women through programs.
Our commitment to a sustainable future is reflected in our efforts to engage employees through inspiring discussions with successful women leaders, fostering a culture of growth and inclusion. We also maintain open dialogue with stakeholders, including local farmers and government officials, to address environmental and community challenges. Transparency is key to our approach; we regularly share updates on our CSR initiatives and environmental impacts through public reports, including our efforts to reduce energy use, minimize water consumption, and lower CO2 emissions.
Komari has received several recognitions for its contributions. In 2023, we were honored as the Best Emerging Socially Conscious Manufacturer in Ethiopia by Business Concept, London. In 2024, we won the Monde Selection Gold Global Quality Award for our dedication to quality. Additionally, we received recognition from the Addis Ababa Labor and Skill Bureau for establishing a Health and Safety Committee, and we are in the final stages of implementing ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22001 certifications as part of our Integrated Management System.
In terms of environmental efforts, we prioritize water conservation by implementing wastewater treatment systems and continuously reducing water usage per bottle (to 0.0175 hl/hl in 2023). We have also invested in energy-efficient machinery to optimize our production processes and partnered with local glass manufacturers to support recycling initiatives and minimize our environmental impact.
Responsible sourcing is another cornerstone of our approach, as we prioritize local talent and collaborate with organizations on community-driven projects. We advocate for the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages, ensuring full compliance with regulations regarding underage drinking and pregnant women. Our workplace safety record is strong, with 600 Lost Time Accident (LTA)-free days.
At Komari, we understand that our success is intertwined with the well-being of our employees, communities, and the environment. We are proud of the impact we have made and remain dedicated to driving positive change for a sustainable future.
